Holland park to Westlake launch area then to the North end of the lake through the West mangroves
Launch Location: Holland Park in Hollywood. The park is located at the entrance to the Intercoastal Water Way and the South entrance to Westlake. There is a floating dock for launching kayaks and canoes with a separate ramp for power boats.
Parking: Parking is by the hour or day and the meters take cash, plastic or pay by phone. Parking lot can get pretty full on weekends, especially if you have a trailer, so it is best to get there early.
Description: Westlake Park is situated in southeastern Broward County, occupying a three-mile strip of mangrove estuary and uplands immediately west of the Intracoastal Waterway within the cities of Hollywood and Dania Beach. West Lake has 47,800 feet of waterfront with an additional 20,600 feet of mangrove-fringed shoreline along the interior waterways.
Many different types of birds can be spotted in the mangroves. Also look for the crabs that live amongst the roots of the mangrove trees. You will often see fish jumping out of the water.
Personal Notes:We paddled through the mangroves into Westlake where we continued paddling north to Westlake Park’s kayak launch area. We then continued north staying on the West side of the lake, crossing under the Sheridan Street bridge and then back into the mangroves located on the West side of the lake. We then navigated north through the mangroves to Dania Beach Blvd. We then paddled east back to the lake and back south through the lake to our launch site.
Kayak Rentals Availability: Rentals are not available at this location. Use the Westlake entrance if you need to rent a kayak.
Amenities: There are primitive public restrooms in the park.
