Launch Location: We stayed at the Largo Lodge which was great as we could park our kayak trailer there and keep our kayaks right at the water’s edge.

Key Largo, FL 33037

Parking: Parking is free for Largo Lodge guests. If you don’t stay there, you can park along the side of U.S. Route 1 in many places for free. Some of the bridges have side roads that lead to free boat ramps.

Description: We paddled in the shallow waters around the mangroves and open water. The water is clear enough that you can see the bottom while sitting in your kayak. There are sand bars that you can stop and rest on. In the tidal pools many small creatures can be seen, like Starfish and Horseshoe crabs.

Kayak Rentals Availability: Largo Lodge has complimentary kayaks for its guests. There are also kayak shops on the island that rent kayaks such as Florida Bay Outfitters.

Amenities: There are plenty of stores nearby. Besides using the lodge’s facilities one can use the restrooms and showers at John Pennekamp State Park which is just a few miles from this location.
