Launch Location: Barry Kutun Boat Ramp At Maurice Gibb Memorial Park

18th St & Purdy Ave
Miami Beach, FL 33139

Personal Notes:We arrived very early knowing that there are only twelve parking spaces for cars with trailers.

We paddled south about one mile to Flagler Monument Island where we checked out the monument that has been recently restored. The island itself is still in need of renovation with construction chain link fence still surrounding the monument. I talked to some volunteers from ECOMB that were picking up trash on the island and was told that they are waiting for funding to complete the restoration.

After relaxing on the beach area of Monument Island and eating snacks, we headed about two miles north to the Isola di Lolando ruins to do some snorkeling. After snorkeling the underwater ruins we headed back to the launch area.

Description: This is a very nice well kept boat ramp next to a marina. It’s an easy paddle out to Flagler Monument Island but one does need to be careful of boat traffic and jet skis. In addition to Flagler Monument Island there are numerous picnic islands in the bay that you can paddle to.

Kayak Rentals Availability: Kayak rentals are available from South Beach Kayak.

Amenities: Restrooms at Maurice Gibb Memorial Park. Stores and restaurants nearby.
