Launch Location: Westlake Park in Hollywood. There is a gravel boat ramp here plus a floating dock in the park for launching kayaks and canoes. The ramp can be slippery due to algae growing on it so it is best to wear water shoes.
Parking: Parking is free once you are in the park. There is a limited amount of trailer parking near the boat ramp.
Description: We were supposed to meet up with a kayaking Meetup group but due to the rain we were the only ones to show up. Figuring that kayaking is a wet sport anyway and it being warm out we put on our rain gear and paddled out through the mangroves into Westlake. We were pleasantly surprised at the abundance of wildlife that came out in the rain. We explored some trails that we had never explored before whilst enjoying nature in the rain. This turned out to be one of our longer Westlake paddles as we paddled all the way north to Dania Beach blvd. After hitting a dead end we paddled south to the Anne Klob Nature Center, used the restrooms there and paddled back to the launch area. We were dripping wet but loved every minute of this paddle.
Kayak Rentals Availability: Rentals are provided by the park.
Amenities: There are public restrooms in the park. There are also restrooms and a nature center at the Anne Kolb Nature Center that is about a half hour paddle going north.
