Launch Location: Westlake Park in Hollywood. There is a gravel boat ramp here plus a floating dock in the park for launching kayaks and canoes. The ramp can be slippery due to algae growing on it so it is best to wear water shoes.
Parking: Parking is free once you are in the park. There is a limited amount of trailer parking near the boat ramp.
Description: This is one of my favorite places to paddle in the area. It’s great for kayaking in the summer as there is plenty of shade under the mangroves along with a nice breeze coming off the lake. On this trip, I was joined by a friend that owned her own kayak and a friend that rented one. Oddly both my friends ended up with the same make and model of kayak. After paddling extensively around the mangroves we paddled over to the Anne Kolb Nature Center, beached our kayaks and took a much-needed break. We ate our snacks there and then paddled back to the launch site.
Kayak Rentals Availability: Rentals are provided by the park.
Amenities: There are public restrooms in the park. There are also restrooms and a nature center at the Anne Kolb Nature Center that is about a half hour paddle going north.
